SHAKESPEARE CENTER LA
FLEXIBLE THEATRE
Los Angeles, California
The mission of The Shakespeare Center LA is to ignite personal and community transformation. By producing world-class theatrical productions, providing best practices high-quality arts education experiences, and offering national award-winning arts-based workforce development programs targeting under-served youth and veterans, The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles demonstrates that excellent accessible immersive arts engagement builds community and changes lives.
The new facility will be a renovation of their original 1964 warehouse and adapting it as a two-story 16,200-square-foot state-of-the-art public theatre. The existing roof and overall superstructure will be repurposed, allowing for most of the construction budget to be allocated for theatre operations upgrades. These improvements include retractable seating, a stage trap, classrooms, workshops, backstage support spaces, and administrative offices. The flexible configurability of the theatre will allow the space to be used in-the-round or rented out as a soundstage in between SCLA productions.
TheatreDNA provided full theatre planning, theatre design, and performance equipment design and specification services.
